AFW - Antique France Worldwide

Old 19th-century handwritten administrative document, written in brown ink on stamped paper, with tight cursive script, mentions of inheritance and signatures at the end of the document.

Description

Old document presented as a folded handwritten sheet, written in French on laid paper or old administrative paper. The whole bears a 75-centime printed fiscal stamp, visible at the top, as well as a structure drafted in articles, characteristic of 19th-century administrative and notarial acts.

The text notably mentions family names, including Colombet, as well as formulas related to an inheritance, a partition, and debts. The writing, in brown ink, retains a beautiful graphic presence with thick and thin strokes, well-ordered paragraphs, and handwritten signatures at the end of the act.

Context

19th-century handwritten administrative documents bear witness to the common practice of hand-written acts before the widespread use of printed forms. Stamped paper, associated with registration taxation, was used to give administrative or legal value to certain private and official acts.

This piece is part of the world of old family and notarial archives: inheritances, partitions, obligations, and acknowledgments are formulated in precise legal language, typical of the period.

Condition

Used old document, sold as is. Paper with age patina, usual folds, light foxing, small marks, and marginal wear consistent with age and handling. The ink remains legible overall, with good preservation of the handwritten trace.
