Description
This document is an old share certificate from the "Société Nouvelle de Port St. Louis du Rhône", dated October 15, 1923. It is a bearer financial security, valued at 500 francs, issued in Paris. The main face of the document displays a large ornamental blue-grey frame, typical of French shares from the first half of the 20th century. At the top, an engraving illustrates the industrial port, reinforcing the issuing company's maritime identity. The main inscriptions are clear and legible, mentioning the series, the share number (012978), and the original handwritten signatures of the administrators.
On the right side, there is a complete sheet of attached coupons, also surrounded by a decorative blue-grey pattern. These coupons, still intact, are numbered and bear the company's name, serving to collect dividends at the time. The whole is printed on slightly yellowed paper, characteristic of period documents, with a matte texture and a wide rectangular format. No element indicates precious material; the finish suggests quality printing paper, typical of old shares and bonds.
The graphic style and typography, with embossed lettering and leafy ornaments, are representative of the 1920-1930 period, confirming the document's vintage authenticity. The main text indicates the registered office in Paris (50, rue de la Boétie) and states a capital of 10 million francs, making it a notable historical testimony to the French port and industrial economy of the early 20th century.
The visible general condition is very satisfactory: the sheet shows slight undulations on the edges, without tears or marked folds. The handwritten inscriptions and signatures are well preserved. The coupons are complete and attached to the share certificate, a sought-after aspect for this type of document.
This bearer certificate, with its original coupons, constitutes an ideal decorative and historical object for a framed display, on a desk or in a showcase, bringing an authentic touch of French economic history to any interior.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The share and its coupons show a patinated appearance and slight undulation due to age, with no major visible defects on the presented face.
Did you know? The port of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, created at the beginning of the 20th century, was a major hub for river and maritime trade in the south of France. Bearer shares like this one allowed any holder to collect dividends without nominative registration, a common system until their gradual abolition in the 1980s for reasons of financial transparency.
