Description
Old bearer share issued by the company Bertrand Frères, visible in the photograph. This financial document, typical of the 1920s, features an ornamental frame printed in black and gray on a pale green background, with geometric and floral motifs characteristic of the aesthetics of the period. The title "Bertrand Frères" appears prominently at the top of the document, accompanied by several administrative details such as "Société Anonyme au capital de 4 millions 500 000 francs" (Public Limited Company with a capital of 4,500,000 francs) and the address of the registered office in Paris, 9 rue de Hildey.
The central part of the document clearly states "Action de Cent Francs au Porteur" (Bearer Share of One Hundred Francs), "entièrement libérée" (fully paid up), series B, with the number 40.474. Several printed signatures are visible, as well as a large red stamp bearing the initials "BF" and the mention "Grasse" in the center, attesting to the authenticity of the share. The typography and the appearance of the paper evoke the production of official documents from the early 20th century.
At the bottom, a series of detachable coupons (dividends or interest), numbered from 7 to 24, are still attached. Each coupon bears the name "Bertrand Frères," the mention "Action" (Share), the serial number, and the indication "Série B" (Series B), as well as a red stamp identical to that on the main document. The whole is printed on slightly yellowed paper, attesting to its age.
The background of the document features a complex security pattern, typical of old shares and bonds, intended to prevent counterfeiting. The richly worked decorative border highlights the prestigious character of this bearer share. The whole is well preserved, with no significant creases, major tears, or visible stains on the presented side. The colors have remained clear, with a marked contrast between the black, green, and red inks.
The visible side shows no handwritten annotations other than the printed signatures, and no additional stamps or seals beyond those already described. The share is displayed on a varnished wooden piece of furniture, which highlights the contrast between the old paper and the dark surface of the support.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The document is in good overall condition for its age, with a discreet paper patina and still vibrant colors. The coupons are intact and remain attached to the main title.
Did you know? Bearer shares like this one were common in France until the end of the 20th century. They allowed ownership to be transferred simply by physical delivery of the document, without nominative registration, which facilitated the circulation of securities but also promoted the anonymity of holders.
