Bearer share CINEMA MAJESTIC LYON vintage 100 francs old certificate
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
The old stock certificate shown in the photo is a bearer share issued by CINEMA MAJESTIC - LYON. The document features a typical layout from the 1920s to 1960s, with a large margin ornamented with a Greek motif, sober typography, and a classic rectangular format for this type of financial asset. The main heading "CINEMA MAJESTIC - LYON" is clearly legible at the top, indicating the registered office in Lyon, 75 rue de la République. The share amount is clearly specified: "ACTION DE 100 NOUVEAUX FRANCS AU PORTEUR" (SHARE OF 100 NEW FRANCS BEARER).
On the left side of the document, the main area includes the mention "entièrement libérée" (fully paid), an identification number (here "No 008043"), as well as two printed handwritten signatures, probably those of an administrator and a board member. The frame surrounding the text is composed of a decorative frieze with a Greek motif, characteristic of official documents from this period.
The right side, also visible, shows a sheet of detachable coupons, each bearing the company name, the share number, and sequential numbering. These coupons were intended to be detached upon payment of dividends or interest, a classic use of bearer shares at the time. The entire document is printed in black on white or slightly ivory paper, with no apparent additional color.
The document is presented open, showing both the main page and the series of coupons. No colored stamps, watermarks, or additional illustrations are visible on the exposed side. The overall condition appears good, with crisp corners and well-preserved printing, although the lower left corner of the sheet shows a slight curve or the beginning of a crease, with no apparent tears on the visible area.
This type of old share constitutes a tangible testimony to local economic history and Lyon's cinematic heritage. The sober aesthetic, the presence of coupons, and the period typography give this certificate a definite decorative interest, in addition to its historical dimension.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in good overall condition, with a slight curve on one corner. Minimal signs of wear consistent with its age.
Did you know? Bearer shares were commonly used in France until the end of the 20th century. Their particularity lies in the absence of the owner's name on the document, which facilitated their transfer and anonymity. The system of attached coupons allowed dividends to be easily collected without additional formalities.
