Description

This document, visible in the photo, is a bearer bond issued by the Compagnie Maritime des Chargeurs Réunis, a limited company with a capital of 500 million francs. It is an old financial document, typical of the 1920s, recognizable by its ornamental design and the presence of detachable coupons at the top. The document features a wide decorative border with a guilloche pattern, characteristic of stock certificates from that era.

The visible side clearly shows the heading "Compagnie Maritime des Chargeurs Réunis" printed in capital letters, as well as several legal mentions and information relating to the issuance. The bond bears the mention "6.50% five hundred franc bearer bond" and a unique serial number (No 0093121). Several handwritten signatures authenticate the document, adding to its historical character.

At the top of the document, a series of coupons numbered from 6 to 15 are clearly visible, each stamped with a circular red seal. These coupons were intended to be detached when interest payments were made, a common practice for bonds and bearer shares of this period. The paper has a slightly textured feel, with high-quality printing and period typography.

The dominant color is a light gray-green with black borders and typographical security elements. The main text is printed in black, while the seals and company logo appear in bright red. No major defects are visible on the exposed side: the document appears to be in good general condition, with no apparent folds, stains, or tears in the photographed area.

This type of bearer share or bond, with its attached coupons, is emblematic of financial investments in early 20th century France. Its retro aesthetic and historical interest make it a sought-after document for office decoration, framing, or educational use in financial history.

Did you know? Bearer shares and bonds were very common in France until the mid-20th century. The Compagnie Maritime des Chargeurs Réunis, founded in 1872, was one of the largest French shipowners, playing a key role in global maritime transport and the development of trade routes between Europe, Africa, and Asia during the first half of the 20th century.
