Description

Old financial document visible in the photo, it is a bearer share issued by the "Société Financière du Congo Français". The document features a wide decorative border with grey geometric patterns, surrounding the central text printed in black and red on a cream background. The upper part of the document displays the title "Société Financière du Congo Français" in capital letters, followed by the mention "Action de cinq cents francs au porteur" (Bearer share of five hundred francs). Several handwritten signatures and a red stamp are visible below the main title.

In the lower part, the share is accompanied by a series of detachable coupons, sequentially numbered, each bearing the mention "Société Financière du Congo Français" and the share number "014821". The coupons are printed in black and red, with several red stamps affixed to some of them. The layout and appearance of the coupons are typical of financial shares from the early 20th century.

The entire document is rectangular, with rounded corners and security patterns printed around the entire perimeter. The paper has a slightly yellowed appearance, testifying to its age, with some visible folds on the upper part and a small tear in the lower left corner. No reverse side is visible in the photo.

The graphic style, font, and layout of the elements are characteristic of the 1920s. The mention "Cinq cents francs" (Five hundred francs) as well as the general aesthetics correspond to bearer shares issued under the French Third Republic for the financing of colonial companies.

The main legible inscriptions on the front are: "SOCIÉTÉ FINANCIÈRE DU CONGO FRANÇAIS", "ACTION DE CINQ CENTS FRANCS AU PORTEUR", and the share number "014821". Several signatures and red stamps are present.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The document shows traces of handling, yellowing of the paper, some folds, as well as a small tear visible on the lower left corner. The whole remains in good presentation condition for a document of this era.

Did you know? Bearer shares were commonly used in the early 20th century to facilitate the circulation of financial securities, particularly in colonial companies. This type of document allowed any holder to claim ownership, without nominative registration, which favored anonymous transactions on the financial markets of the time.
