Bearer share Marseille-Matin 1931 vintage green old stock certificate
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This authentic document is a bearer share certificate issued by the regional newspaper "Marseille-Matin" in 1931. It is a vintage stock certificate, presented here in a particularly well-preserved version, with its detachable coupons still attached on the right. The entire document is printed on slightly ribbed paper, typical of official documents from the early 20th century.
The main face of the share certificate features an ornamental border in green, with classic floral and geometric motifs from the 1920s-1930s. The "Marseille-Matin" header is printed in vivid red, immediately recognizable, followed by the mention "Grand quotidien régional d'information" (Major regional news daily). The document bears the face value of "CENT Francs" (One Hundred Francs), clearly indicated in the center, and the mention "entièrement libérée" (fully paid).
One can note the presence of the individual share number (No. 95.073), as well as two handwritten signatures of administrators and the red "Marseille-Matin" stamp. The legal notices, the registered office (81, rue Sainte, Marseille) and the issue date "Avril 1931" (April 1931) are clearly legible. On the right, a series of detachable coupons, each numbered and stamped, are aligned in columns. Each coupon bears the mention "Action au porteur n° 95.073" (Bearer share no. 95.073), as well as indications of rank (first, second, etc.).
The typography, the style of the border, as well as the use of thick, ribbed paper, are characteristic of French stock certificates from the 1930s. The dominant colors are green, red, and black, with a very slightly bluish/grey background that accentuates the vintage character of the document.
The document is presented open, perfectly showing the main face and all the coupons. The entire piece is placed on a wooden piece of furniture, which highlights the structure and layout of the certificate. No major defects are visible in the photographed area, apart from a slight fold in the bottom right, typical of handling from that era.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Visible fold at the bottom right; the entire visible face remains clearly legible and clean.
Did you know? Bearer shares were commonly used in France until the early 1980s. They allowed their holder to collect dividends anonymously, without the issuing company necessarily knowing the owner's identity. Press stock certificates like those from "Marseille-Matin" testify to the importance of regional media in the economic fabric of the time.
