Bearer Share Plantations de Finance 1920s Old Vintage Financial Paper
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old bearer share issued by the "Société Internationale des Plantations de Finance", visible on the main side of the document. This vintage financial security features a typical 1920s print, with an intricate ornamental frame in grey-blue tones and an elaborate layout, characteristic of shares and bonds printed in the early 20th century. The mention "Registered Office: Antwerp" as well as the value "100 Francs au porteur" are clearly legible.
The document is partially open, revealing a sheet of detachable coupons on the right, each coupon bearing the same number as the main share (N° 380614). The coupons are numbered and include the company name, the location of the registered office, and the nominal amount. The handwritten signature of a director and a company agent is visible on the lower part of the main security.
The paper shows a patina marked by time, with traces of wear, slight stains and creases, particularly in the corners and along the central fold. The typographic print, probably produced by Jos. de Volder in Antwerp (mentioned at the bottom of the document), shows a high level of detail in the decorative motifs and printed watermarks.
The front side includes many distinctive graphic elements: floral-patterned framing, embossed typography, validation stamps, and various handwritten fields. The whole reflects the financial aesthetic of the era, both solemn and ornate, highly sought after in the field of scripophily for its historical and decorative value.
The document format is ample, with a rectangular shape and a coupon sheet attached on the right. No decoration or inscription is visible on the back or on the other sides not shown in the photo.
Condition
Used item sold as is. The paper shows visible signs of wear, stains, and creases related to its age and historical handling. The main inscriptions remain legible.
Did you know? Bearer shares were commonly used in Europe until the mid-20th century. They allowed their holder to exercise the rights of the share without nominative identification, which facilitated their transfer but also led to their gradual decline from the 1930s due to new regulations on financial transparency.
