Description

This document is a bearer share certificate issued by the Société Minière et Agricole du Garn-Alfaya (SMAGA), dating from the 1920s based on its graphic style and typography. The visible share is printed on pale blue paper, with a wide ornamental border featuring geometric and floral motifs typical of early 20th-century financial documents. The main text and framed sections are printed in dark blue, while handwritten signatures and stamps complete the document.

At the top, the full name of the company is displayed in capital letters, accompanied by the acronym SMAGA in a medallion. The registered office is indicated as Paris (27, Rue Laffitte, Paris 8e). The clearly legible share value is 5000 francs to bearer, "fully paid up." A unique number (012614) is printed on the document, ensuring its authenticity. Two administrator signatures are visible at the bottom right and left of the central frame.

The lower part of the document features a series of detachable coupons, numbered 1 to 20, each bearing the blue SMAGA stamp. These coupons, typical of old share certificates, were used to collect dividends or interest attached to the share. Their presence adds to the vintage and historical aspect of this document.

The entire document displays high-quality printing, with precise alignment of elements and particular attention paid to aesthetics. The paper shows a slight patina testifying to its age, but no major defects are visible on the presented side. The decorative motifs, signatures, and stamps are clear and well-preserved.

This type of old share certificate is a concrete testament to French economic and industrial history, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors of the early 20th century. This document, through its design and security features, perfectly illustrates the administrative and financial practices of the time.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The share certificate is well-preserved on the visible side, with a slight patina and clear inscriptions. No tears, stains, or major creases are observable in the photographed area.

Did you know? Bearer shares were commonly used in France until the mid-20th century, allowing their holder to remain anonymous. The attached coupons were detached when dividends were paid, making each document unique in its state of preservation.
