Description

This antique stock document represents a bearer bond issued by the "Chemin de Fer du Nord" company. The bond is typical of early 20th-century financial instruments, identifiable by its large format, its decorative red-brown geometric border, and its paper, slightly yellowed with age. The left part shows the main text, topped by a box reading "Obligation de 500 Francs" and "Chemin de Fer du Nord," followed by details of the conditions and printed signatures. The typography and ornamentation are characteristic of the 1920s.

On the right side of the document, a series of detachable coupons is clearly visible. These coupons were used to collect interest at regular intervals, which reinforces the authenticity and historical use of the security. Each coupon bears a numbering and a printed mention, in a simple frame, perfectly consistent with the stock market practices of the time.

The paper surface has a smooth, matte appearance, with a slight uniform patina. The dominant colors are the cream of the paper and the red-brown of the frames and motifs, with no illustrations other than the typographic ornaments. No major defects are visible on the exposed face, apart from a few discreet handling marks on the lower edge.

The main heading "CHEMIN DE FER DU NORD" is clearly legible, as is the value "500 FRANCS." The texts are printed in French, with a visible handwritten date ("Paris, le 1er Septembre 1925"). The overall legibility is excellent for a document of this era, making it a representative piece of bearer bonds used on French financial markets during the interwar period.

The photo shows the document open, displaying both the main page and the coupon strip, allowing the typical structure of old stocks to be appreciated. No reverse side or back details are visible in this image.

Did you know? Bearer shares, like that of the Chemin de Fer du Nord, were commonly used in France in the early 20th century. They allowed their holder to anonymously collect dividends and interest, without nominal registration. The Chemin de Fer du Nord was one of the main French railway companies, playing a key role in the development of the national railway network until its nationalization in 1937.
