Vintage Human Anatomy Poster, Medical Chart, Chinese Acupuncture 65.5x10
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old educational poster depicting human anatomy, visible on the front. This large illustrated plate features, in the center, a human body in frontal view, detailing the main systems: skeleton, muscles, internal organs, nervous system, and apparent pathways associated with acupuncture practice. The outline of the body is enhanced with an orange area, typical of medical diagrams of the era, facilitating the visual reading of the different bodily networks.
Around the main silhouette are five complementary anatomical insets: sagittal section of the head, anatomy of the eye, sagittal sections of the thorax and abdomen, as well as an ankle insertion diagram. Each secondary illustration is finely labeled in French, with precise tracing of organs and internal structures. The whole, printed in vivid colors (red, yellow, blue, beige, ochre), retains great legibility despite the passage of time.
The plate is numbered "2" in the lower left corner. In the lower right, inscriptions in Chinese and French presumably indicate the title and publisher, but they are not entirely legible in the photo. The graphic organization and typography evoke a pedagogical style from the 1970s-1980s, common in medical schools and practitioners' offices.
The paper shows several horizontal and vertical folds, visible over the entire surface, indicating folded storage. No snags, tears, or missing parts are visible on the exposed side. The colors remain sharp, without major discoloration. The poster rests on a wooden table, indoors, with an old bookshelf in the background, which highlights the imposing size of the plate.
This old medical poster, both decorative and didactic, is a sought-after item for training or decorating an office, treatment room, study, or wellness space. It is also suitable for vintage scenography or enhancing interiors with a retro medical style.
Condition
Used poster, sold as is. Presence of storage folds, no tears or visible stains on the displayed side. Inscriptions and colors are well preserved.
Did you know? Illustrated anatomical posters like this one were widely used in medical education in the 20th century, before the digital era. Acupuncture diagrams, originating from Chinese tradition, are known for mapping the energy meridians used in traditional medicine, often combined with Western anatomical representation to facilitate cross-understanding of practices.
