Description

This vintage issue of "Lisette" magazine, dated Sunday, December 17, 1933, is an original example of early 20th-century French youth press. The beautifully illustrated color cover depicts a scene titled "The Twins are Sulking," featuring two young girls in long dresses in a bourgeois interior, accompanied by an elderly woman and two antique dolls. The illustration, with its fine lines and pastel colors typical of the era, evokes the graphic world of 1930s children's literature.

The front page bears the famous "Lisette" title in blue lettering on a white background, surrounded by floral graphic elements. The magazine is clearly identified as "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Magazine), with "16 pages," "Price: 25 centimes," and the editorial office address in Paris. The number displayed in the upper left corner indicates "N° 51 - Treizième année (649e livraison)" (No. 51 - Thirteenth year (649th issue)), highlighting the publication's longevity.

The paper shows a patina marked by time: brownish oxidation traces are visible on the edges, particularly on the top and side borders. The corners are blunted, and the paper shows signs of fragility, common in this type of old press. The print remains clear, with legible characters and colors still vibrant on the cover illustration.

The side binding, typical of pamphlets from this era, is visible on the left edge. No details are observable regarding the spine or the content of the interior pages in this photo, but the cover suggests illustrated content, consistent with the spirit of interwar youth publications.

The overall aesthetic, the characters' clothing style, and the print quality clearly place this issue within the illustrated youth press of the 1930s, a segment prized for its charming retro graphics and the quality of its illustrated stories.
