Description
This document is an old issue of the illustrated newspaper "Lisette", shown here in an edition dated Sunday, January 1, 1933. The cover displays the title "Lisette" on a blue background, surrounded by a stylized floral frieze, and the mentions "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Newspaper) as well as "16 pages" and "Prix : 25 centimes" (Price: 25 centimes). The layout features a large color illustration, typical of interwar youth press, depicting two young girls each accompanied by a donkey, on a country path, in a pastoral scene titled "Les deux ânes" (The Two Donkeys).
The color palette used on this cover combines pastel tones and solid flat colors (green, yellow, blue, brown, orange), with a strong black outline, characteristic of engravings and comics from this period. The drawing signed "Jean" (bottom right of the image) evokes a simple and expressive graphic style, intended for a young audience. Visible details include baskets, vegetables on the ground, and traditional costumes, reinforcing the rural and educational atmosphere of the illustrated story.
The publication details are clearly visible: "N° 1 – Treizième année (599e livraison)" (No. 1 – Thirteenth year (599th issue)), "Parait : chaque semaine" (Published: weekly), as well as the editorial office address in Paris. The overall condition shows a homogeneous patina: the cover presents significant yellowing, typical of period paper, signs of handling, small brown spots, and a slightly dog-eared bottom right corner. The print remains very legible, and the side binding appears intact on the visible part.
The format of this periodical, rectangular in appearance, is standard for illustrated youth newspapers of the early 20th century. No other elements (spine, interior, back) are visible in the photo; only the front cover is presented. The newspaper is clearly original, with a presentation strictly conforming to French children's press of the 1930s.
The main legible inscriptions are: "Lisette", "Journal des fillettes", "16 pages", "Prix : 25 centimes", "Les deux ânes", as well as the precise date "Dimanche 1er janvier 1933".
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Presence of yellowing, stains, and a dog-eared corner, visible wear and tear on the cover. The copy remains legible and complete on the visible side.
Did you know? The "Lisette" newspaper was launched in 1921 by the Société Parisienne d’Édition and marked several generations of young French female readers. It was one of the very first illustrated periodicals specifically dedicated to girls, combining comics, illustrated stories, and educational sections, and met with great success until the 1970s.
