Description

This old issue of "Lisette" magazine, dated Sunday, April 8, 1934, is a remarkable testament to early 20th-century youth press. The cover, with its vibrant and well-preserved colors, features an illustration typical of the era, depicting four little girls in orange coats accompanied by an adult in front of a wooden door, with the title "Poucette et ses sœurs" (Thumbelina and her sisters).

The front page displays the "Lisette" logo in a blue cartouche on a cream background, adorned with two stylized red roses, emblematic graphic elements of the magazine. The mentions "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' magazine) and "16 Pages" are clearly printed, as are the price of 25 centimes and the note "Parait : chaque semaine" (Published: weekly). The issue presented is No. 14 of the fourteenth year (665th delivery), a valuable detail for enthusiasts of old press and youth periodicals.

The paper shows a slightly aged ivory tint, typical of publications from this period, revealing natural original wear and a browned edge, without affecting the readability of the texts or the sharpness of the main illustration. No major missing parts or tears are visible on the front. The corners are blunted, a sign of old handling, but the overall item remains solid and cohesive.

The inscriptions are perfectly legible: "Dimanche 8 avril 1934" (Sunday, April 8, 1934), "Bureaux : 4, rue Gazan, Paris (XIV)" (Offices: 4, rue Gazan, Paris (XIV)), as well as the mention "16 Pages". The cover illustration is signed, although the artist's name is not fully decipherable in this photo. The title of the main story "Poucette et ses sœurs" appears at the bottom of the page, followed by the mention "(Suite.)" (Continued).

This periodical for young girls offers a valuable insight into illustrated literature and the graphic codes of the interwar period, through a simple layout and pastel colors typical of the printing of the time. The drawing style, recognizable by its black outlines and flat color areas, evokes the aesthetic of the 1930s in the French youth press.
