Description

This issue of the illustrated newspaper "Lisette", dated Sunday, August 12, 1934, is a striking example of French youth press from the early 20th century. The cover features a polychrome illustration depicting a fairy tale scene, with a carriage drawn by two richly harnessed horses, a coachman in period attire, and several female characters in old costumes, including a barefoot young girl in the foreground. The illustration, signed "Lévêque", occupies most of the page and testifies to the narrative graphic style typical of children's periodicals of that period.

At the top of the cover, the title "Lisette" is highlighted by a blue frame, accompanied by stylized roses on the sides. Also indicated are: "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Newspaper), "Parait chaque semaine" (Published weekly), as well as publishing information (N°32, Fourteenth year, 683rd issue). The original price is displayed as 25 centimes for 16 pages, a common format for youth press at the time. The Parisian office address is explicitly stated: "4, rue Gazan, Paris (XIVe)".

The paper has a characteristic yellowish tint of old publications, with a slightly dog-eared top edge and signs of wear on the spine. No major damage is visible on the cover. The cover illustration, titled "Les fins cheveux de Javotte" (Javotte's Fine Hair), announces a story to be found inside (page 16 according to the printed mention).

The typography, illustration style, and layout are typical of the 1930s, with an aesthetic that is both naive and refined, characteristic of children's publishing of the era. No content from the back or interior pages is visible in the image.

The side binding, though subtly worn, remains intact on the visible side. The cover shows no major tears or apparent annotations. The colors of the illustration remain well-preserved for an item of this age.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible signs of wear and paper yellowing, slightly dog-eared corners, overall condition consistent with an old newspaper from 1934.
