Description

This lot concerns an old issue of the illustrated magazine "Lisette," dated Sunday, June 17, 1934. The visible cover features a polychrome illustration depicting an interior scene: a young woman in a green dress and white bonnet, carrying a basket, stands in front of a chest of drawers topped with a vase, facing a mirror. The period furniture and decorative details (armchairs, drapery, wood paneling, small-paned window) evoke an early 20th-century style, consistent with the publication period.

The front page displays the title "Lisette" at the top in a blue cartouche surrounded by stylized floral motifs. In the upper left are the issue number (No 24), the mention "Fourteenth year (675th delivery)," and the precise date. The selling price "25 centimes" is indicated on a yellow background, as well as the number of pages (16 Pages). It also reads "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Newspaper) and the address of the editorial office in Paris.

The bottom of the cover mentions the title of the main story: "Fanette, la jolie" (Fanette, the pretty one), with a legible illustrator's signature ("Levesque"). The printing is in color, typical of interwar youth publications, with solid blocks of green, yellow, beige, blue, and brown, and a clear black line for the outlines.

The paper shows an ivory to beige tint, with a homogeneous patina and some visible signs of wear along the edges, notably handling marks, light stains, and a folded upper left corner. No significant missing parts or tears appear on the visible side. The spine seems complete and the cover well-attached.

The mentions "Paraît chaque semaine" (Published weekly) and the layout confirm that it is a youth periodical primarily intended for young girls, sought after for its illustrations, stories, and characteristic graphic style of the 1930s. The format is that of a thin newspaper, typical of illustrated youth press from that period.

Did you know? The magazine "Lisette" was founded in 1921 and established itself as one of the main illustrated magazines for young girls in France, offering stories, comic strips, games, and advice every week. Its colorful aesthetic and narratives influenced several generations before its discontinuation in 1973.
