Visual Description and Identification

This document is an old issue of the illustrated magazine "Lisette", aimed at young girls, as indicated at the top of the cover: "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Magazine). This is issue no. 1 of the fifteenth year, dated Sunday, January 6, 1935, as clearly visible on the upper part. The cover features a color illustration, typical of interwar youth periodicals, depicting a narrative scene where a young woman in a red blouse and light skirt crosses a stream, watched by a male figure perched on a rock, with a coastal landscape, sailboats, and seagulls in the background.

The title "Lisette" is displayed in an oval blue cartouche, outlined with stylized roses, topped with the mention "16 Pages", "PRIX: 25 Centimes" (PRICE: 25 Centimes) in yellow inserts. The mention "Parait: Chaque Semaine" (Published: Every Week) specifies the periodicity. At the bottom of the page, the beginning of the story "Le Collier de Jade" (The Jade Necklace) is indicated, as well as the mention of the story's start and continuation on internal pages (pages 8 and 9).

The overall layout, font graphics, and illustration style strongly evoke the French editorial aesthetic of the early 1930s. The cover is printed on cream newsprint, with a visible patina and foxing (signs of paper aging) on the edges, characteristic of old newspapers.

The magazine appears complete on the front cover side (16 pages announced), with no visible missing parts on the exposed face. No details of the spine or inner pages are visible in the provided photo.

Condition

This issue shows signs of wear from use and age: the cover is marked by numerous foxing spots and signs of yellowing, typical of untreated paper from the 1930s. The corners are slightly blunted, with no tears or apparent missing parts on the visible side. Sold as used and as is.

Did you know? The "Lisette" magazine was launched in 1921 by Éditions de Montsouris. It established itself as one of the most popular youth periodicals of the first half of the 20th century in France, thanks to its illustrated stories, comic strips, and serial novels intended for young female readers. Each issue featured a cover drawn by renowned illustrators of the time, contributing to the artistic and literary education of an entire generation.
