Description

This lot corresponds to an old sulfur matchbox from the Régie Française, clearly identifiable on the front by the visible inscription: "RÉGIE FRANÇAISE 100 ALLUMETTES SOUFRÉES TENIR À L’ABRI DE L’HUMIDITÉ" (FRENCH REGIE 100 SULFUR MATCHES KEEP AWAY FROM HUMIDITY). The package has a flat rectangular shape, characteristic of match packaging from the early to mid-20th century.

The visible side shows a light blue border around the text, also printed in blue on an off-white or faded white background. The typography used for the inscriptions is simple, functional, typical of utilitarian products distributed by state monopolies in France. The mention "100 allumettes soufrées" (100 sulfur matches) indicates the original content, although the interior is not visible in the photo.

The cardboard shows several signs of wear: brown stains and discolorations are visible around the edges, particularly at the top and bottom of the package. This testifies to the object's age and its past use. The edges are slightly rounded and the cardboard appears slightly warped in places, signs of prolonged storage.

The entire front face remains legible, despite the traces of time. There are no superfluous decorative motifs, which reinforces the utilitarian and authentic character of this period packaging. It is a typical example of supplies regulated by the Régie Française, for domestic or public use, and now prized for vintage decoration or retro ambiance recreation.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Shows signs of wear, stains and visible wear on the front. The object retains its authenticity and original charm.

Did you know? Sulfur matches were commonly used in France until the 1960s, before the widespread arrival of disposable lighters. The Régie Française des Allumettes, created in 1872, had a monopoly on manufacturing and distribution, which explains the presence of its name on many old packages.
