Description

Antique pipe composed of a bowl made of white enamelled ceramic, adorned with a blue decoration forming the stylized features of a cat. The bowl, open at the top, presents a sculptural and rounded shape, with a graphic expression characteristic of freehand painted decorations.

The stem is made of metal with a warm patina, in a brass or aged bronze tone. It is animated by successive rings, twisted fillets and small relief motifs, with a curved mouthpiece at the end. The whole combines glazed ceramic and worked metal in a decorative Asian spirit.

Context

This pipe is part of the tradition of decorative Asian utilitarian objects, where blue and white ceramics interact with patinated metal mounts. The animal motif, here the cat, brings an expressive and ornamental presence to an object intended for both use and display.
