AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Antique box camera, Goldy 6x9 model, clearly identifiable on the front by the inscription "GOLDY" and the mentions "6x9" and "Made in France". The front features a black hexagonal label with white borders, also mentioning "Objectif Menisque" (Meniscus Lens). The structure is rectangular, typical of box cameras from the early to mid-20th century, with two circular metal triggers visible on the front. A cord handle is attached to the top, secured by metal fasteners. The entire piece has a matte black finish with a grainy appearance, reminiscent of a faux leather or coated cardboard covering, frequently used on this type of camera.
The front has a central opening for the lens, circled in dark metal, as well as simple and robust controls, true to French productions from the 1930s to 1950s. The Goldy logo, with its geometric lines, recalls late Art Deco aesthetics. The camera rests on a flat surface, highlighting its compact silhouette and crisp angles. No superfluous decoration, the sobriety of the design emphasizes functionality, a hallmark of box cameras intended for the general public.
Visible materials include exposed metal on the controls and fasteners, as well as a matte black coating on the entire casing. The original cord is present, although slightly frayed. The camera shows a patina marked by time: accumulated dust on the top, traces of use on the metal elements, and slight marks on the front. No chips or cracks are visible on the front face.
The "6x9" mention indicates the compatible film format, characteristic of European box cameras, although the exact size cannot be estimated here. The "Made in France" inscription confirms French manufacturing, an asset for enthusiasts of vintage photographic equipment.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Presence of dust, visible wear and tear on the front, slight oxidation on metal parts. The overall condition is consistent with an unrestored antique camera. Not tested under shooting conditions.
Did you know? Goldy cameras were produced in France starting in the 1930s, mainly by the Goldstein company. These box cameras were designed to democratize photography thanks to their very simple use and affordable price. The 6x9 cm format was one of the most common for 120 roll film at the time.
