Description

This antique paratrooper beret, shown in the photo, features a round, flexible cut, characteristic of French military headwear from the mid-20th century. The exterior shows a fine-textured beige fabric, with a patina of use testifying to its authenticity and age. The inner rim is reinforced with a brown leather-look band, carefully stitched, providing better fit and increased comfort on the forehead.

The inside of the beret reveals a beige fabric lining, marked by regular imprints and wear. A clearly visible black inscription reads: "Ets E. CHOULET MARSEILLE," confirming the manufacturer's origin, a historical supplier from the Marseille region. A "54" marking is also present, corresponding to the size. The base of the beret is equipped with a matching drawstring, allowing for precise adjustment to the head.

The overall structure of the beret is flexible and unstructured, with a slightly deformable appearance, typical of models used in the field by paratrooper units. The uniform beige color, combined with the absence of any visible insignia on the front, suggests official or issued use. The visible seams appear robust, reinforcing the impression of an item designed to withstand intensive use.

The beret is photographed resting on a wooden table, in a period setting, which highlights its patinated color and authenticity. No additional decorative elements are visible on the shown part. The manufacturer's mention and internal numbering are elements sought after by connoisseurs of French military equipment.

This headwear is distinguished by the combination of its beige fabric, its leather-look interior finish, and its authentic markings, making it a typical example of military paratrooper berets produced in Marseille during the post-war period.

Did you know? The manufacturer Ets E. Choulet, based in Marseille, supplied textile equipment to the French armies for several decades, particularly berets for airborne troops. The choice of beige fabric was common for certain paratrooper corps, especially during campaigns in North Africa, to adapt to arid environments.
