Description

An old film reel, visible here on a white background, intended for the Pathé-Baby projector. The object has a flat circular shape, typical of cinematic film reels from the early 20th century. On the visible side, the reel has a dark patina, suggesting the appearance of aged metal or an old composite material, without precise material affirmation beyond what is visible. In relief on the surface, the inscription "PATHÉ-BABY" is clearly distinguishable, as well as technical indications molded into the mass, characteristic of original Pathé accessories for amateur projectors.

A beige paper ribbon, wrapped around the reel, bears the typewritten inscription "Chat et Raf" in red letters, indicating the title of the film contained on the filmstrip. This type of title band was commonly used to identify the subjects of silent film reels intended for the family market. The reel has a central opening encircled by a golden ring, compatible with the standard axles of Pathé-Baby projectors.

The surface of the reel shows signs of regular wear, testifying to its age and use, with some visible marks on the edges and a homogeneous patina over the entire disc. No major chips or breaks are observable on the visible side. The film itself appears tightly wound around the core, with no detached leader or visible end.

The general style, typography, and design indicate production typical of the 1920s to 1930s, a key period for Pathé-Baby which democratized amateur cinema in France. This type of object is sought after for its authenticity and historical interest in the world of domestic silent cinema.

The reel is presented in a light textile-backed case, which is not included in the sale unless otherwise stated. Only the top side of the reel is visible in the photo; no information is given about the back or the internal condition of the filmstrip.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Presents a homogeneous patina, traces of use, and superficial marks. See photo for the precise condition of the visible side.

Did you know? The Pathé-Baby, launched in 1922, was the first amateur cinema projector widely distributed in France. It used a 9.5 mm film format, recognizable by its central perforation, allowing short films, cartoons, or newsreels to be viewed at home on interchangeable reels.
