Description

An old advertising pin box from the 1950s, shown here open, with its illustrated lid visible and its original contents. The box is rectangular, with rounded corners, and features a typical pharmaceutical advertising design from the era on its lid, with a drawing of a toothpaste tube. The legible inscription on the lid reads "SODIRICINE DENTAIRE à la TYROTHRICINE" (SODIRICINE DENTAL with TYROTHRICIN), accompanied by the mention "HYGIÈNE DE LA BOUCHE" (ORAL HYGIENE) and the slogan "MATIN ET SOIR" (MORNING AND EVENING). Also visible, in smaller print, is the name of the laboratory: "Laboratoire SODIRICINE, 38 avenue de l'Opéra, Paris."

The lid's surface has a slightly patinated white background with a blue and beige visual, typical of utilitarian graphics from the 1950s. The inside of the box, visible in the photo, is filled with metal-headed pins, most of which are classic; a few paperclips are also visible among the pins. The metal shows signs of age, with a discreet patina on some pinheads, without pronounced discoloration.

The box itself appears to be made of metal (light gray metallic appearance inside), with no specific material indicated in the visual, but consistent with the use of pharmaceutical containers from that period. No decorative elements other than the advertising graphics are present. The hinge and opening system are not visible in this shot.

The graphic style, typography, and layout are characteristic of French advertising objects from the mid-20th century, with an informative and direct approach. The drawing of the tube and the mentions "HYGIÈNE DE LA BOUCHE" and "MATIN ET SOIR" evoke the world of pharmacy and oral hygiene of the time.

This type of box served both as an advertising medium and a practical container for small everyday items, here dressmaker's or household pins, sometimes used for sewing, DIY, or organizing documents.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Patina from use present on the box and pins, very discreet traces of oxidation on some heads, lid graphics clearly legible. No visible chips or missing parts on the photographed area.

Did you know? Tyrothricin, mentioned on this box, is an antibiotic discovered in the 1930s and used at the time in some toothpastes for its antiseptic properties. Metal advertising boxes were a common medium for promoting pharmaceutical products until the 1960s, as they combined utility and daily visibility.
