Description
Old pharmaceutical advertising box, clearly intended for storing or dispensing sterile compresses, as indicated by the original label still present on the top surface. This rectangular box has a dark metallic-looking surface, marked by an oxidation patina and friction marks, typical of old pharmacy or first aid items. The label, printed in black and red on an off-white background, occupies a wide diagonal band. It mentions: "10 Compresses Gaze Hydrophile Stérilisée 9x10 cm" (10 Sterile Hydrophilic Gauze Compresses 9x10 cm), "C.Faller Pharmacien Inspecteur" (C. Faller Inspecting Pharmacist), as well as "Marque déposée" (Registered trademark) accompanied by a stylized red cross.
The label is partially stained and shows signs of wear, but remains legible. The text, in an old typeface, also specifies "Société d’Hygiène de Gazes Hydrophiles" (Hydrophilic Gauze Hygiene Society) and usage instructions, clearly anchoring the object in the medical world of the early to mid-20th century. The graphics and style of the inscriptions evoke French pharmaceutical products from the 1920s-1940s.
The box itself is flat and rectangular, with straight edges. The surface shows several areas of discoloration, oxidation, and white marks, accentuating its vintage and authentic appearance. No other decor or pattern is visible on the photographed side, the whole remaining sober and functional, true to pharmacy accessories of that era.
The red cross printed on the label, associated with the mention "Marque déposée" (Registered trademark), is a symbol commonly used on old medical objects to guarantee the authenticity and sanitary purpose of their content. This box was likely intended to equip first aid kits or to be used in a hospital or pharmaceutical environment.
The typography, the arrangement of the texts, and the general patina of the object attest to real use and prolonged storage, reinforcing the historical dimension of this piece. No content is visible or accessible in the photo.

Did you know? The red cross, widely used on pharmacy packaging in France in the early 20th century, was a distinctive sign for first aid or emergency care products. Boxes of sterile compresses were an essential component of portable medical kits, both in hospitals and homes, before the advent of modern disposable packaging.
