Description

Rectangular box of Anglo-Indian inspiration, recognizable by its very specific decoration combining light strips, probably porcupine quills according to the keywords, inserted parallel on all visible sides. The structure of the box is framed by a network of dark strips, punctuated by circular light inlays, which give rhythm to the whole and recall the Indo-British decorative techniques of the 19th century. The top of the lid features a geometric arrangement with raised frames, while the front shows a keyhole, indicating the presence of a closing system (key not visible in the photo).

The contrast between the light porcupine quills and the dark strips inlaid with white dots creates a graphic effect typical of decorative boxes from the colonial period in India. The finish shows slight variations in shade on the strips, accentuating the artisanal aspect of the object. The circular inlays are regularly distributed on the lid frames and the edges of the box, highlighting the precision of the marquetry work.

The box rests on a straight base, and its proportions evoke an elongated and compact format, suitable for storing small precious objects, jewelry or souvenirs. The visible front does not present any additional decorative elements, apart from the keyhole and the marquetry decoration. No pattern, inscription or mark is visible on the exposed face.

The surface shows a homogeneous patina, with some discreet traces of wear visible on the dark strips, mainly around the edges, testifying to previous use. The whole remains visually harmonious and stable, without major chips or apparent structural defects in the photographed areas.
