Vintage Decanter Old Armagnac Le Coup Fumant du Chasseur
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Detailed visual description
This is a large antique bottle, presented in an inclined position on a wooden background reminiscent of an old library. The object takes the form of a stylized hunting cartridge, with a dark, shiny cylindrical body, finished with a matte metallic base. This unique shape, recalling a cartridge casing, is typical of advertising or decorative objects inspired by the hunting world.
The upper part of the bottle features a golden oval label, visible on the front, bearing the inscription "GRAND ARMAGNAC DUCOURTIUX" followed in larger characters by "LE COUP FUMANT DU CHASSEUR". It also reads "Vic-Fezensac – Gers", which indicates the origin of the object, rooted in the Armagnac tradition of Southwest France. The label, with its simple design, reflects an advertising style of the era, probably mid-20th century, without absolute certainty about the dating.
The entire visible surface appears well-preserved, with a marked contrast between the brilliance of the body and the satin tone of the metallic background. No additional decoration, relief, or pattern is visible on the exposed part, apart from the main label. The dominant color of the body is a deep black or very dark brown, accentuating the retro and masculine look of the object.
This type of bottle is generally intended for decoration or for promoting regional products and spirits, here Armagnac, as the label clearly suggests. The object stands out for its elongated silhouette and its aesthetic evocative of the hunting world.
The bottle is photographed on a wooden table, adding to the rustic and traditional atmosphere of the scene. No liquid content is visible, and there is no indication of the presence of a stopper or a closure system on the presented side.
Condition
Second-hand item, sold as is. The visible surface of the bottle and the metallic base shows slight signs of use consistent with age, but no chips, cracks, or major defects are observable in the photo.
Did you know? The design of bottles in the shape of a hunting cartridge was popular among several Armagnac and Cognac houses in the 20th century, particularly to appeal to hunters and lovers of rural traditions. Vic-Fezensac, mentioned on the label, is a commune in the Gers region renowned for its Armagnac production since the 19th century.
