AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This military button features a satin-finish gold plating, with a pronounced relief across its entire visible surface. The central design consists of a circular escutcheon surrounded by a laurel wreath in relief, topped with a stylized royal crown. In the center, the main motif evokes a symbol resembling a crossed axe or tool, typical of French firefighter insignia. The embossed inscription "BEUCHERD / ANJOUED" (reading subject to legibility, as some letters may be slightly worn) encircles the motif, accompanied by small stars on each side of the escutcheon.
The golden surface displays a uniform patina, with slight visible wear marks on some of the raised areas, indicating prior use. The entire button is domed, with clear chiseled details that enhance the official and ceremonial appearance of the object. The reverse side is not visible in the photo.
The button is photographed on a light gray velvet textile background, which highlights the brilliance of the gilding. No fastening system is visible in this view. The object clearly evokes uniform buttons worn by fire brigades or similar bodies in France, and is distinguished by the richness of its ornamentation.
The typography and composition of the escutcheon are characteristic of military or public service buttons from the late 19th - early 20th century, although the exact period cannot be confirmed without further evidence. The general style, the gilded appearance, the laurel motif, and the mention of a manufacturer or institution on the perimeter confirm its belonging to the tradition of regulated uniform accessories.
