Description

This lot consists of four antique buttons, visible in the photo, featuring a patinated gold finish. Two of the buttons have a raised anchor motif surrounded by ropes, typical of the French Navy uniform. The other two buttons, also domed, are devoid of motifs and show a smooth surface with a matte patina, with small localized oxidation marks, visible in the image.

The anchor-motif buttons show a clear relief but surface wear, indicating previous use. The outlines of the anchor and the details of the rope are still clearly visible despite areas where the gilding has deteriorated, particularly on the upper part of the button. The plain buttons show a regular domed surface, with verdigris oxidation marks on one, and slight discoloration on the other, characteristic of the metal alloys used for uniform buttons in the 20th century.

The four buttons display nuanced golden tones, ranging from bright yellow to a more matte gold, probably due to natural wear and oxidation over time.
