Description

This antique World War I (WW1) lighter is distinguished by its vertical cylindrical shape and its brass structure with an old patina, typical of early 20th-century military objects. The surface shows a beautiful green oxidation characteristic of aged brass, visible particularly around the base, the rectangular handle, and the top.

The upper part is equipped with a knurled lid, topped by a cylindrical chimney in which a black, slightly worn wick is still visible. This detail, along with the robust and simple design, evokes the so-called "trench lighters," which were very common among soldiers during the Great War.

On the visible side, there is a thick, manually welded side handle, which allowed for a good grip even with gloves. The base is flat, ensuring the object's stability when placed down. No markings or inscriptions are visible on the exposed surface.

The finish reveals a brown and verdigris patina, with traces of wear, dirt, and some residues, testifying to long use and prolonged storage. The upper mechanism, although partially fouled, shows the notched wheel for ignition.

This type of lighter was designed for practicality and robustness, with a sober, functional design typical of early 20th-century military production. Its authentic and utilitarian appearance makes it a direct witness to the daily life of soldiers in World War I.

Condition

Used item sold as is, with oxidation, traces of wear, patina, and visible dirt on all exposed parts. Presence of dust and residues around the wick and handle. Mechanism not tested.
