Description

This antique brooch features a vividly enamelled coat of arms, dominated by a red background and enhanced by a gold border. At the centre, the design features a stylised "T" topped with three small golden hearts, as well as three dangling motifs resembling bells or horseshoes, all in relief. At the top of the coat of arms, the inscription "SCHIRMECK" appears in capital letters, clearly legible and moulded into the mass. This is a typical escutcheon from 20th-century commemorative or tourist productions, often offered as a souvenir of French localities.

The brooch has a classic shield shape, with a rounded point at the base and slightly curved sides. The bright red enamel contrasts elegantly with the golden outlines and motifs, offering a very characteristic retro aesthetic. The surface shows some signs of wear and small marks, testifying to the object's age and authenticity.

The reverse is not visible in the photo, but the typical fastening of this type of brooch suggests a pin system, without being able to confirm it. The object is presented on a light fabric display stand, highlighting the intensity of its colours and the relief of the enamel. No logo or manufacturer's mark is visible on the front.

The general style evokes city or regional souvenirs, very popular in the second half of the 20th century. This type of heraldic brooch was frequently used as a clothing or bag accessory, or given as a gift during tourist visits.

The brooch shows a patina and small alterations on the enamel, particularly some spots where the red colour fades, as well as marks on the gilding, confirming its vintage character and its past use.

Condition

Did you know? The coat of arms of Schirmeck, a commune located in the Bas-Rhin in Alsace, incorporates historical elements related to the town, including the stylised "T" and the bell or heart motifs, symbols often associated with the region. Enamelled tourist brooches were particularly popular in France from the 1950s to the 1970s, manufactured in series to highlight local identity.
