Description

Old escutcheon-shaped brooch, representing the stylized coat of arms of the town of Gex and the Col de la Faucille, a famous mountain pass in the French Jura. The piece features a gold-plated metal structure, covered with colored blue, turquoise, and white enamel. The central design highlights a relief mountain range against a vibrant blue background, with the inscription "GEX" at the top and "LA FAUCILLE" at the bottom, both in clearly visible gold letters. The edges of the escutcheon are outlined by a golden molding, giving the whole a robust and retro appearance.

The brooch has an aesthetic typical of mid-20th-century tourist souvenirs, with a graphic style reminiscent of the 1950s-1960s. The sharp contrast between the enameled areas and the gilded parts enhances the relief of the motif and the readability of the inscriptions. The enamel shows cracks and slight material loss in places, attesting to its age and authentic patina.
