AFW - Antique France Worldwide

Antique heraldic brooch, presented here in a decorative case. This brooch takes the form of a shield blazon, surmounted by a stylized mural crown. The visible side is worked in relief and adorned with a polychrome enamel decoration: a red diagonal with black motifs on a silver background can be seen, as well as a green and white leafy motif, enhanced with a central red detail, evoking a floral or vegetal composition typical of regional heraldic art.

The enamel presents beautiful shades of red, green, black and white, applied in zones, with raised contours accentuating the design. The whole is set on a metallic-looking base, with a visible matte patina on the non-enameled parts. The mural crown, at the top, displays a classic architectural modeling, often associated with the coats of arms of French towns or regions.

The brooch is photographed from the front, showing the metal and enamel work, with no indication of the reverse side or attachment system. No text or markings are visible on the front. The object is highlighted in an antique-looking box, emphasizing its decorative and regional character.

The general style, polychromy, and appearance of the enameled metal evoke French productions from the mid to late 20th century, often made to represent the coats of arms of communes or families.

This type of heraldic brooch, also called an insignia or blazon pin, was frequently worn to emphasize regional or family attachment, or offered as a souvenir at local festivals.

Condition: Used item, sold as is. The enamel and surface show a visible patina, with some signs of wear and minor marks on the enamel, typical of an old object.

Did you know? Enameled heraldic brooches and insignias are a French tradition dating back to the 19th century, popularized in the 20th century for the representation of municipal, family, or associative coats of arms. The mural crown is a specific ornament of city blazons, symbolizing urban protection and identity.
