Description

Antique religious-style brooch with enamel decoration, depicting a white cross encircled by a red band. The object features a chalice in its center, surmounted by the inscription "IHS", surrounded by the letters "C" and "E" on the horizontal arms of the cross. The circular rim, enameled in red, bears the inscriptions "PANIS", "ANGE", "LORUM", and "ECCE" in golden letters. The outlines and motifs are highlighted in gold, accentuating the contrast between white and red, typical of Christian iconography from the first half of the 20th century.

The brooch has a shiny finish, characteristic of the enamel technique. The symmetrical arrangement of the cross and the presence of liturgical motifs indicate that it was probably produced for ceremonies or parish use. The overall appearance suggests careful craftsmanship, with clear details on the inscriptions and central motifs.

The visible side does not show any major apparent defects, but there are a few small irregularities in the enamel, indicating either handmade work or natural aging. The colors remain vibrant, particularly the red of the circle and the white of the cross, with a slight golden patina on the contours.

The visible decorative elements, such as the central chalice, stylized rays, and letters, are typical of eucharistic symbols. This type of brooch was often worn during religious festivals, processions, or as an insignia of membership in a brotherhood.

The reverse side is not visible in the photo, so it is not possible to describe the fastening system or the presence of any manufacturer's marks.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The enamel on the visible side is well-preserved, with clear colors and legible details. Some slight traces of age or handling may be present.

Did you know? Enameled religious brooches were frequently used in France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries during First Communion or liturgical events. The inscription "IHS" is a monogram of the name of Jesus, often used in sacred Catholic art.
