Description

This document is a vintage advertising blotter, visible in the photo, published for the "A LA FABRIQUE" company in Marseille. The front features red typographic printing on an off-white background, with a graphic border typical of advertising materials from the first half of the 20th century. The main inscription "A LA FABRIQUE" is highlighted by a large capital typography, accompanied by the names E. Igon and R. Delisle, as well as the full address: 24, Rue Jean de Bernardy, Marseille (opposite Lycée Longchamp).

The blotter mentions a specialization in the manufacture of items for schoolchildren, students, teachers, doctors, travelers, and social workers. The services offered include the creation of satchels, bags, shopping bags, document holders, wallets, cardholders, and other accessories. The message "Custom Work - Trustworthy House" as well as "Encourage French Craftsmanship" emphasizes the artisanal roots of the establishment.

The neat layout, with decorative lines and structured alignments, evokes a graphic style from the 1930s to the 1950s. The apparent condition of the blotter is very good: the paper seems clean, without visible stains or tears on the displayed side, and the corners are generally sharp, with the exception of a slightly creased upper right corner. The printing remains vibrant, with perfectly legible characters.

The mention "BON BUVARD A CONSERVER" (GOOD BLOTTER TO KEEP) can be seen in the upper left, attesting to the utilitarian function of the document: the blotter was a common object on school desks and for professionals, used to absorb excess ink when writing with a fountain pen. Today, this type of medium is sought after for retro decoration or for recreating vintage atmospheres.

The back, any inscriptions on the back or other sides are not visible in the photo and therefore cannot be described. Only the front side adorned with the advertising print is presented here.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The overall condition is visually very satisfactory, with slight traces of use compatible with the age and function of the object.

Did you know? Advertising blotters were widely distributed in France from the late 19th century until the 1960s, particularly by local businesses and artisans. They served as both a practical tool and a promotional medium, and today they bear witness to the dynamism of small manufacturers and stationers of that era.
