Description
This Japanese playing card, from the Carddass series, depicts a character from the manga and anime "Rurouni Kenshin". On the visible side, the card features a purple leafy-patterned border, typical of 1990s Carddass editions. The main visual highlights two illustrations of the same character, including a humorous chibi version in the upper left, armed with a sword, against a yellow background with dynamic stripes. In the lower right, the character is shown in a combat pose, dressed in a white kimono with a black belt and red details, illustrated in a style faithful to the manga's aesthetic.
The card displays several Japanese inscriptions, including a red and black band on the left that seems to indicate a specific attack or ability, as well as a bright yellow box in the lower right, adorned with a large red kanji and a grid of gray squares. The logo "るろうに剣心" (Rurouni Kenshin) appears in the upper right, confirming its belonging to the official anime license. The whole is printed on a smooth, cardboard-like medium, typical of Bandai Carddass playing or collectible cards.
The visible front side shows neither a signature nor an apparent serial number on this face, but the print quality and graphic style are consistent with Japanese production from the mid-to-late 90s. The featured character, recognizable by his messy black hair and expressive look, is likely Yahiko Myojin, one of the secondary protagonists of the series.
The card's overall design, with its vivid colors, contrasting illustrations, and Japanese graphic elements, perfectly illustrates the style of official merchandise from that era. No major defects are visible on the displayed side: no scratches, damaged corners, or apparent stains; the card appears to be in good visual condition.
Condition
Used item sold as is, the card presents a clean visual appearance with no noticeable defects on the front side. The corners and surface seem well-preserved. Only the front side is visible; the condition of the back cannot be assessed.
Did you know? The Carddass range, launched by Bandai in Japan in the late 1980s, revolutionized anime card collecting by offering officially licensed series for many successful mangas, including Rurouni Kenshin starting in 1996. These cards were often distributed through vending machines in toy stores and arcades in Japan.
