Description

This old postcard depicts an official scene in front of a building, presumably in Monaco, as indicated by the inscription visible at the bottom of the image: "825. MONACO – Carabiniers, Prince's Guards of Honor". On the illustrated side, five uniformed soldiers, wearing helmets adorned with plumes, are lined up in front of a striped sentry box and a flag. The detailed uniforms, epaulets, and military attributes attest to a period photograph, likely from the early 20th century, given the clothing style and the sepia monochrome rendering typical of old photographic processes.

The setting highlights a ceremonial scene, with the carabiniers positioned on guard near a table occupied by two men in the background. The background reveals classical architecture, probably an official courtyard or an institutional Monégasque location. The postcard features a slightly tilted framing, which accentuates the documentary nature of the shot.

The surface of the card shows a noticeable patina, with visible signs of wear, including dark spots and dirt on the lower right part and along the edges. Some oxidation marks, typical of old documents, are also noticeable. The support appears to be cardboard, as is common for this type of old edition.

The printed text at the bottom of the card, "825. MONACO – Carabiniers, Prince's Guards of Honor", is clearly legible, confirming the subject and the geographical origin of the scene. No other handwritten elements or postmarks are visible on this side.

The composition, print quality, and the carabiniers' uniforms evoke the style of Belle Époque to interwar postcards, highly sought after for their documentary value and historical aesthetic.
