Description

Old black and white photographic postcard, depicting a group of soldiers posing outdoors in front of a half-timbered building. The scene shows about sixteen men in uniform, accompanied by a woman in a white blouse and nurse's cap, all seated and standing in three distinct rows. The visible uniforms, including kepis, coats, and characteristic collar patches, clearly evoke a military period from the early 20th century, most likely that of the First World War (1914-1918), given the cut of the clothing and the photographic style.

The composition of the group, the architectural background, and the presence of a nurse suggest a photograph taken in the context of a military hospital or field ambulance. The expressions and postures are formal, typical of collective portraits of the period. The card has an old sepia appearance, with soft contrast and visible patina on the surface, reinforcing the authenticity of the period. There are some signs of wear, stains, and handling marks on the visible side, including a brown stain on the upper right part and discreet marks on the edges.

The photograph occupies the entire visible side, without white margins or printed caption on the front. No name or date is legible on this side. The architectural details of the background, such as wooden shutters and roofing, offer a realistic context to the scene. The uniforms, with aligned buttons and straight cuts, as well as the nurse's cap, are typical of the French army during the Great War.

The card is of classic rectangular format, with corners slightly rounded by the wear of time. The texture of the old photographic paper is perceptible, and the overall tone oscillates between light gray and dark brown, characteristic of silver prints of the period. Some superficial scratches are also visible, mainly around the edges.

This type of visual document is sought after for the direct testimony it offers on the life of soldiers and medical personnel during the First World War. It is a valuable support for military history, genealogical research, or hospital iconography of the period.
