Visual Description

This old postcard illustrates a rural scene in the Comtat Venaissin (Vaucluse), probably at the very beginning of the 20th century. The photograph, colorized in an old-fashioned way, shows a moment of strawberry harvesting on the farm. Several people, men and women in traditional clothes, are gathered around a horse-drawn cart loaded with wooden crates. On the right, three women in aprons and long dresses are chatting in front of a farm building with a light-colored facade. In the center, a man leads the horse while another climbs onto the cart. The background reveals a stack of crates and a tree-lined landscape typical of the Provençal countryside.

The sepia color palette enhanced with green and red hues gives the image an authentic and rural atmosphere, characteristic of early 20th-century postcards. The printed caption at the top indicates: "15 — In the Comtat - The Strawberry Harvest - Packing at the Farm".

The card has straight edges and appears to be protected in a plastic sleeve. No stamps, handwritten notes, or shipping marks are visible on this side. The format is typical of old postcards, with a slightly textured print and fine photographic details.

The traditional clothes, the draft horse, and the wooden crates bear witness to a rural way of life that has now disappeared, while the composition highlights the collective and seasonal dimension of the harvest in the Vaucluse.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The card shows visible signs of wear: light marks, blunted corners, traces of age, and a uniform patina on the surface. The legibility of the image and inscriptions remains good. A slight reflection is present due to the plastic protection on the photo.

Did you know? Strawberry cultivation in the Comtat Venaissin, a historical region of Vaucluse, developed at the end of the 19th century thanks to the richness of the soil and irrigation by canals. The wooden crates visible on the card were locally made and reused each season to transport the fruit to the markets of Provence and Paris.
