Vintage 70s ON4JT Amateur Radio QSL Card – Retro Mechelen Illustration
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Detailed visual description
This amateur radio QSL card, from the 70s, features a vertical composition with a white background, characteristic of retro radio correspondence. In the upper left part is the call sign "ON4JT" printed in red capital letters, typical of European amateur radio identifiers.
The visible side of the card is adorned with a black drawing, made with a pen or fine felt-tip pen, depicting an old architectural scene. A traditional building with a sloping roof, chimney, wall lantern and vaulted doors is clearly visible, evoking the historical atmosphere of the city of Mechelen (Malines). The sketch occupies most of the surface, with a neat graphic style, typical of 20th century technical or tourist illustrations.
In the bottom left, we can see the handwritten mention "3/24", suggesting a limited print run or an edition number, which reinforces the interest in personalized exchanges between radio operators. Just below the drawing, the inscription "HOEKJE VAN BEGIJNHOF / MECHELEN" identifies the place represented: a corner of the Beguinage of Mechelen, a Belgian historical site.
The card is placed vertically on a wooden table, in front of an old bookcase, which highlights its retro appearance and its period use. No other element is visible on the front, in accordance with the simplicity of QSL cards from the 70s.
The apparent surface seems well preserved: no tears, major marks or folds are visible in the photo. The print and drawing retain good sharpness, ideal for decorative or archival use.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The apparent general condition is good with a clean appearance and no major visible defects on the presented side.
Did you know? QSL cards are used by amateur radio operators around the world to confirm contacts ("QSO") made remotely. Each call sign, such as "ON4JT", corresponds to an operator and a specific country (here Belgium, ON prefix). QSL card exchanges are a tradition that dates back to the beginnings of radio, and some series with local illustrations have become emblematic of an era or a region.
