AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This old road map, published by Michelin, bears the number 64 and covers the Angers-Orléans region. It stands out with its bright yellow cover, typical of Michelin editions from the mid-20th century, featuring the famous Bibendum logo and the prominent "Pneu Michelin" at the top of the cover. The scale is specified: 1:200,000 (1 cm for 2 km), a sought-after format for its precision and readability.
The visible side shows detailed mapping of the main routes in the western Loire Valley, framed by blue and black graphics on a yellow background. The original price, 1.30 F, is on the cover, indicating a pre-Euro edition, likely from the 60s or 70s. The covered area is clearly indicated on the schematic map at the bottom of the page, with a list of the main towns served.
The rectangular design with rounded corners, neat printing, and noticeable paper thickness attest to robust manufacturing, typical of old road maps designed to last. The inscriptions are clear: "Services de Tourisme Michelin, 97 Bd Pereire, Paris 17e – Tél. Carnot 64.00" appears at the bottom of the cover, confirming the authenticity of a period edition.
The map also bears the mentions "Cartes régionales" (Regional Maps) and "64" in distinctive blue roundels at the top and bottom, enhancing readability and its vintage appeal. No major defects are visible on the front, apart from slight signs of wear on the edges, typical of a used item from this period.
The map is photographed in situ, placed on an old desk in front of a wooden bookcase, highlighting its decorative potential in a retro interior or a space dedicated to authentic items from French road heritage.
