Vintage phone card Télécarte 50 Hollywood limited series ad
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This French telephone card, known as a "télécarte", is a remarkable vintage advertising item. It features a richly colored illustrated front on a vibrant yellow background, with graphic elements evoking a journey around the world: a stylized tribal mask, a cactus, a blue monument, and a female bust portrait, all in a graphic style typical of the 1990s. The top right corner displays "TELECARTE 50", indicating a capacity of 50 units, while the golden chip is clearly visible on the left.
In the center, a large inscription in green and blue: "What if there was a limited edition to discover the world?" catches the eye, highlighting the promotional aspect of this edition. At the bottom, the "HOLLYWOOD Chewing Gum" logo indicates that it is an advertising card distributed by the famous chewing gum brand, which was very active in this type of medium in the 90s.
The card's surface has a smooth and glossy finish, typical of smartcards from that era. The colors are bold, with a strong contrast between the yellow background and the multicolored graphic elements. No major defects are visible on the photographed front, the inscriptions are clear, and the chip appears intact.
The design blends exotic and pop culture references, with motifs evoking both Native American cultures (stylized mask, cactus) and Asian cultures (female portrait with a flower in her hair), in line with the theme of travel and discovery highlighted by the card.
This type of chip-based télécarte, produced in a limited series for an advertising campaign, is now considered an iconic object of 90s visual communication in France. It is a physical medium that is now obsolete, but sought after for its retro aesthetic and its connection to the history of telecommunications and advertising.

Did you know? Chip-based télécartes were introduced in France in the 1980s and became a popular advertising and promotional medium in the 90s, with many limited editions produced by consumer brands like Hollywood Chewing Gum. These cards were used in public telephone booths before the advent of mobile phones.
