Astro Boy Atom Phone Cards Set Japan Tezuka 100th Anniversary Vintage
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot consists of a set of two Japanese phone cards, presented in an illustrated cardboard holder. It is a "Happy 100th Anniversary" commemorative box set, honoring Osamu Tezuka, the iconic creator of the manga Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom). The cards are inserted into a brightly colored foldable sleeve, predominantly blue, yellow, and gold, with a graphic layout featuring festive motifs and gold lettering on the front.
The first visible card (upper right corner) depicts Astro Boy in full stride, in a style faithful to classic Japanese animation. It shows a value of 100 units (¥100) and features Japanese inscriptions, accompanied by a distinctive logo in the upper right.
In the lower section, two other illustrations are visible: on the left, a card featuring Astro Boy in a futuristic setting, inspired by a magazine cover or a key episode of the series, with an adult in the background. This card also bears a face value of 100 units, with graphic elements typical of the 1960s to 1980s. On the right, the third card shows Astro Boy accompanied by another character, against a pastel blue background, with a graphic style evocative of the period of the work's television adaptations.
The cardboard holder features Japanese inscriptions, a gold "100th Anniversary" logo, and a refined layout reminiscent of limited editions or collector's items published for an anniversary event. The colors are vibrant, with a dominant blue, yellow, and gold, and the overall presentation is typical of official Japanese merchandise.
The visible surfaces show no apparent defects: the cards appear intact, without signs of wear, scratches, or notable alteration. The cardboard holder is well-preserved, without excessive creasing or visible tears on the exposed side.
Condition

Did you know? Osamu Tezuka, known as the "God of Manga," published the first Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) adventure in 1952. The series made history in Japanese animation by becoming, in 1963, the very first large-scale televised anime in Japan, paving the way for the global rise of manga and anime.
