Celluloid animation Ghostbusters vintage cartoon? Rare original
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot consists of an original animation cel, used for the production of a cartoon from the "Ghostbusters" franchise (also known as "SOS Fantômes" in France). The image shows a male character wearing the famous beige jumpsuit, typical of the animated series, with visible harness and accessories, including a stylized proton pack and a yellow tube on the shoulder. The character is depicted with open arms, palms up, in an expressive posture. In the background, a rough sketch of the same character is visible, slightly offset, evoking the traditional superposition of animation stages. The cel is transparent, placed on a white sheet, and has three registration holes at the top, typical of professional traditional animation supports.
The main colors are beige/grey for the jumpsuit, touches of black and blue for the accessories, and flesh tones for the face and hands. The outlines are sharp, characteristic of hand-painted cels. The drawing is precise, faithful to the aesthetic of 80s-90s animated series, with an expressive face and meticulous details on the equipment.
In the upper right part of the cel, there is a handwritten annotation "e-7" (sequence or order mark), as well as another barely legible sign, typical of internal numbering in animation studios. The item is presented protected in a plastic sleeve, placed on a wooden background.
The cel has a smooth and shiny surface, with no apparent scratches on the illustrated area. No missing parts or tears are visible on the displayed section. The upper edges show the standard perforations for placement on an animation table. The overall visual condition is good for a vintage animation item.
This original cel is a rare testament to the cartoon production process, highly sought after for cult franchises like Ghostbusters/SOS Fantômes. It is an authentic piece of the traditional animation process, each cel being unique.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The image shows the visible side of the cel, with no apparent major defects. Possible traces of use or signs of age related to handling in the studio.
Did you know? Cels were used until the 1990s to create frame-by-frame animated cartoons broadcast on television. Each hand-painted sheet corresponds to a precise stage of animation and was photographed against a fixed background to create the illusion of movement. The series "The Real Ghostbusters" aired between 1986 and 1991, leaving a lasting mark on the world of television animation.
