Vintage Ghostbusters Animation Cel - Original Ghostbusters Drawing
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot consists of an original animation cel used in the production of a cartoon, clearly from the "Ghostbusters" series. The piece shows the upper half of the male character, recognizable by his slicked-back brown hair, wearing a brown jacket and a dark green undershirt, with a concentrated expression indicating an action scene typical of the Ghostbusters universe.
The cel is presented on a transparent sheet, protected by a plastic sleeve. At the top of the sheet, there are two round and one oval perforation, typical of cels designed to be aligned on registers for frame-by-frame shooting. The drawing is executed with great precision, the solid colors are crisp, and the outlines are perfectly defined, showcasing the traditional craftsmanship of hand-drawn animation.
The upper left part reveals what appears to be part of an iconic blue equipment, likely an element of the famous proton pack, an emblematic accessory of the ghost hunters. In the upper right corner, a handwritten label indicates "B/G B5", an internal reference for the animation sequence or shot.
The cel has a matte visual appearance, typical of the processes used in the 1980s-1990s for animated television series. The main visible colors are brown, dark blue, green, and pinkish-beige for the skin tone. No background is present, which is common for original cels (backgrounds often being painted separately).
The sheet is in good overall condition on the visible side, with some slight handling marks and slight wear on the edges, visible in the photo, without altering the main drawing. No tears or major stains are visible in the illustrated area.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The overall condition of the cel is good, with slight signs of age and handling visible in the photo. The colors remain well-preserved, and the transparency of the medium is intact in the visible area.
Did you know? Cels were essential in the production of traditional cartoons until the advent of digital. Each animated image required a hand-painted cel for each movement, which could represent thousands of pieces for a single sequence. The animated series "The Real Ghostbusters" aired from 1986 and remains one of the flagship productions of 1980s television animation.
