Vintage Ghostbusters animated cel, rare SOS Fantômes animation cel
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot features an original animation cel from an animated sequence, depicting a character from the "Ghostbusters" franchise. It is a transparent sheet used in traditional animation production, showing a male character in a light beige jumpsuit, equipped with the famous proton pack on his back, and standing upright. The colored drawing is applied to a transparent sheet, typical of 80s-90s animation processes, and shows some handwritten technical annotations in blue around the character, attesting to its studio use.
The cel sheet has three perforations at the top, standard for professional animation material for alignment on a camera stand. The character, immediately identifiable as a member of the "Ghostbusters" team, stands out with his smile, short brown hair, and the iconic complete uniform (gloves, accessory belt, harness, proton pack straps). The colors are well preserved, with shades of beige, grey, and touches of blue, yellow, and black on the equipment.
The cel is presented in a protective plastic sleeve (visible in the photo), placed on a wooden surface. No background is visible on the sheet; only the character is painted, which is typical of individual cels intended to be superimposed on backgrounds during production. Some handwritten technical inscriptions are visible on the upper part and around the character (color notations, scene or order numbering), confirming the authenticity of its studio use.
The cel technique, abandoned since the advent of digital, gives this piece a special appeal for those who appreciate traditional animation. The visual aspect, with its clean outlines and solid colors, highlights the iconic graphic style of the Ghostbusters / SOS Fantômes animated series.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The cel shows good overall paint preservation, with no major visible defects on the presented side. Some discreet traces or marks may be observed on the transparent sheet, related to age and studio use.
Did you know? Cartoon production in the 1980s used thousands of hand-painted cels for each episode. The "The Real Ghostbusters" series, broadcast from 1986, popularized the franchise with a new generation, and each original cel bears witness to this artisanal process, which has now disappeared.
