Description

This antique Catholic rosary features a succession of round beads with a carved appearance, connected by visible metal links along its entire length. The light brown, wood-effect beads are each adorned with a regular circular pattern, giving the whole an artisanal and traditional aesthetic. The rosary ends with an oval-shaped central medallion, with a patinated surface, showing marked signs of wear and a central translucent window, probably intended to house a relic or an image, although the content is not clearly visible in the photo.

The overall structure of the rosary follows the classic arrangement, with five decades of beads separated by more widely spaced links. The metal wire connecting the beads shows signs of oxidation and tarnishing, typical of a period object. No cross is visible in the photographed part, suggesting either its absence or a missing part to be restored.

The piece is placed on a wooden background, near antique books and light-colored fabric, highlighting the vintage character and patina of the object. The appearance of the beads, their color, and their carved pattern evoke traditional craftsmanship, common in European rosaries from the early to mid-20th century.

The central medallion, with a tarnished silver finish, has a thick oval shape with irregular edges and a worn surface, attesting to long use. The overall appearance reveals irregularities and small marks, signs of ancient use and a need for restoration, particularly for the medallion.

This antique rosary, also called a chaplet, is a typical religious object used for prayer and meditation in the Catholic tradition. The carved beads and their style bring a special character, sought after by collectors of vintage liturgical objects.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The rosary shows signs of wear, a marked patina on the metal parts and the central medallion. Possible absence of the cross or elements to be restored. See photos for more details on the general condition.

Did you know? The word "rosary" comes from the Latin "cappella," originally designating a small cape, then by extension a series of prayers. Rosaries with carved beads were often handmade in European religious workshops until the 1950s, each pattern sometimes having a symbolic or regional meaning.
