Description

Rare pair of antique scissors, probably from the 19th century, accompanied by their case visible in the photo. The object has a classic elongated shape, with two large symmetrical finger rings and robust straight blades. The surface of the scissors shows a use patina, typical of old instruments, with traces of oxidation and a clearly visible central retaining screw, characteristic of traditional manufacturing of that era.

The rigid case, visible on the right of the image, has a visual appearance evoking leather, in accordance with the keywords provided. There is a marbled effect and natural signs of wear, confirming its age. The case is closed at one end, pierced with a metal eyelet, probably for hanging or suspending it. Its dark brown color, with lighter shades due to wear, reinforces the authentic character of the set.

The scissors themselves display a dark gray, matte hue, with metallic reflections dulled by time. The rings are perfectly circular and of identical size, suitable for a firm grip. The central joint, held by a flat screw, indicates artisanal assembly. No markings or inscriptions are visible on the presented side.

The blades are straight, without apparent decoration, and show traces of oxidation or micro-scratches, signs of regular use over the decades. The overall finish is sober, utilitarian, typical of instruments intended for cutting textiles, leather or paper in the 19th century. The robustness of the construction suggests quality manufacturing, designed to last.

The set is presented on a rough mineral surface, which highlights the contrast between the ancient material of the object and the surrounding decor. Grazing light subtly reveals the reliefs and wear of the metal and leather.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible presence of patina, oxidation and signs of wear on the scissors as well as on the case. Both elements are structurally intact on the visible side.

Did you know? Straight-bladed scissors with symmetrical rings were commonly used in the 19th century for sewing, tailoring or craft work. Their robustness and simple design made them particularly suitable for daily use in textile workshops or bourgeois homes, where precise cutting of fabrics was an essential task.
