Old French compass in velvet box, vintage drafting instruments

Detailed visual description
This old box, shown open in the photo, contains a set of tracing instruments used in technical drawing or geometry. The rectangular case is covered in black velvet-effect fabric, adorned with a golden geometric pattern in the center of the lid, where the letters "GR" surrounded by the words "MARQUE DÉPOSÉE" (REGISTERED TRADEMARK) are visible.
Inside, the box contains three visible instruments, carefully arranged on a matching holder. The first, at the top, is a rigid-leg compass, with two straight metal legs, a central adjustment wheel, and a fine point. The second, located in the center, is an articulated compass with curved legs, also equipped with adjustment wheels and a central circle for grip. The third instrument, at the bottom, is a ruling pen or a small technical pen, recognizable by its white end (probably made of plastic or galalith), and its tightening wheel.
The finish of the instruments has a shiny metallic appearance, typical of precision tools made in France in the early or mid-20th century. The adjustment elements are precisely screwed, and the discreet patina of the surfaces indicates past use, without affecting the readability or apparent functionality of the pieces. No additional markings are visible on the instruments themselves on the exposed side.
The box shows some signs of wear on the velvet, mainly in the form of scuffs or slight discoloration, consistent with regular use and the passage of time. The contours of the instruments are sharp, with no visible chips or missing parts on this side. The whole evokes the utilitarian and elegant style of French-made drawing instruments, intended for professionals or students of the time.
Condition

Did you know? Early 20th-century French precision compasses were renowned for their robustness and exquisite craftsmanship. The mention "Marque déposée" (Registered Trademark) attested to a registered manufacturing process, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of the tools at a time when France exported many drawing instruments to engineering schools and architects across Europe.
