WWI antique military paper knife saber brass crescent decor
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique, military-style paper cutter is distinguished by its small oriental saber shape, evoking the iconography of World War I (WW1). The object has a visually copper or brass finish, with a clearly visible antique patina. The blade, curved and notched on one side, has an intricate appearance, while the crossguard is curved, emphasizing the Oriental or Ottoman inspiration.
The handle, long and tapered, is adorned with finely engraved geometric decoration, offering a good grip. At the end of the handle, there is a crescent-shaped motif surmounted by a small star, a detail typical of Ottoman military symbols or those inspired by the Orient, frequently found on military souvenirs from the 1914-1918 period.
The surface of the paper cutter shows a homogeneous patina, with localized signs of wear and oxidation, especially around the crescent. A small rectangular sticker bearing the handwritten number "99" is affixed to the blade, probably for inventory or collection reference.
The set consists of a single piece visible in the photo, without any mechanism or articulation. The general style, shape, and engraved decoration are characteristic of objects made or brought back during the Great War, often produced by soldiers or in military souvenir workshops.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Antique patina, some traces of oxidation and signs of use visible on the blade and handle. The reference sticker can be removed as preferred.
Did you know? During World War I, many soldiers made or commissioned souvenir items from materials recovered from the front. These saber or sword-shaped paper cutters, often adorned with crescents and stars, were popular with troops stationed in the Ottoman Empire or North Africa, symbolizing their passage or involvement in these regions.
