Vintage OPINEL folding knife, wooden advertising, old patinated steel blade
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This folding knife of French origin is an OPINEL model, recognizable by its elongated shape, its light wood handle, and its metal safety ring. The object presented has a steel blade with a marked patina, typical of old knives that have been used and developed natural oxidation over time. The handle features an old advertisement, partly erased by use, but still showing the mentions "OPINEL ORIGINAL" and "Ateliers ..." on a black and yellow printed label.
The apparent wooden handle has retained its honey tone, with visible signs of wear, scuff marks, and scratches on the surface, testifying to regular use. The slightly curved shape of the handle, widened at the end, is characteristic of classic OPINEL models. The shiny metal safety ring, located at the junction between the blade and the handle, also shows signs of wear and handling.
The folding blade, in a semi-open position in the photo, offers a uniform patinated appearance over its entire surface. The inscription "OPINEL" is visible engraved near the heel of the blade, although partially faded by wear. The cutting edge shows a typical curvature of traditional pocket knives, with no additional decorations visible on this side.
The object is photographed against a decorative black background with golden patterns, placed on a burgundy-rimmed box or case, which is not an integral part of the knife but highlights its authentic and vintage appearance.
This OPINEL knife stands out for its marked patina, its period advertising handle, and the presence of original elements characteristic of the Savoyard brand. It is an old advertising model, probably from a promotional series for workshops or partner businesses.

Did you know? OPINEL is a French brand founded in 1890 in Savoie, whose wooden-handled folding knife has become iconic worldwide. The safety ring, called "Virobloc", was invented in 1955 to improve safety of use. OPINEL advertising knives were often distributed by partner merchants or companies, making them witnesses to local economic history.
